Belize is one of the smallest countries found in the Caribbean that is situated on the eastern coast of Central America while being bordered by Mexico and Guatemala and well known to be the location of the second largest reef barrier in the world, while offering a diverse landscape, environment and climate. Belize is also divided into 3 parts, based on climate and geography making them northern, southern and offshore caves or small islands areas. The weather in Belize is the ideal weather that every vacationer and tourist would want in any tropical island, as the temperatures in Belize can range from the lowest to the highest of 80 degrees F daily throughout the years.
Belize offers a hot and humid climate that carries on through the year but there are instances of wet seasons and they can be seen by the weather condition of each month for that certain year. It is a fact that any weather condition can change each year but should the weather somewhat follow the pattern indicated below then you can expect the following weather conditions to occur by each of the month.
The Weather in Belize by Month
January
Rainfall ultimately hits Belize during the month of January where the rainfall measures about 9 to 10 inches in the uplands of the Maya Mountains. The northern part of Belize however tends to have rainfall of about 10 inches while the sugar cane harvests are evident and the southern parts of Belize begin to show well grown mature Mayan crops.
February
During the month of February, the weather conditions of Belize are much more consistent in having dry steady winds. Often there would be occasions of morning showers from the coastline, but not too often to completely ruin the holiday spirit of Belize. The Rainfall in Toledo measures up to 6 inches during February, while the other parts of the country only receives 1 inch of rainfall.
March
This is the month when farmers begin to harvest their crops. Just like the weather conditions that hit Belize in February, March offers the wet season but not as how it affects the northern part of the country where there is lesser rainfall or none at all, while the winds die down and the thunderstorms affect the areas over the Maya mountains.
April
Although harvesting of crops then takes place in Belize during April, this is in preparation as well for the beginning of the rainy season.
May
As the rainy season hits Belize, every single part of the country will see rainfall either strong or weak, with the southern areas having more rainfall than in the northern areas.
June
Heavier rain is usually expected in June with continuous showers with winds building up. However, with the blend of rain and sun, planting of crops takes place in this month.
July
Unlike June, lesser rain should be expected in July, but still will show similar weather conditions throughout the month.
August
As the rainfall and showers end slowly in the month of August, the dry season is slowly welcomed but tends to last for only for a few weeks.
September
Winds finally begin to die down in the month of September, but frequent evening rains still affect the country.
October
This time of the month is when the cold winds from the north picks up and clashes with the warm winds thus bringing rain once again. October welcomes much cooler days unlike the previous months.
November
This month offers colder weather while rain continues to pour as the north cold winds blow harder, winds from the east follows.
December
December signals the beginning of the dry season and thus planting then begins, bringing about the planting season.
Vacationing in Belize
If you are planning to have a trip to Belize, then you must make sure that it is done during the dry season which is between December to April, to avoid having waste time, effort and excitement. This is because travelling to Belize during the wet season, which is early May and November, will only offer terrible downpours leading to floods. The rainfall in Belize can range from 60 inches up north and 160 inches down south, that only indicates that the floods can become great. Another factor to remember is the lobster season which is from February 15 to June 15, as this is when your highly anticipated and desired meal is strictly off limits as lobsters are busy reproducing more lobsters to prevent issues in supply.
Nevertheless, you must always be prepared when you go on vacation in Belize because you can never know when there would be a sudden change of plan due to the weather conditions. So, if in any case, the sudden shift to stormy weather sets your plans off course from snorkeling or diving, then you can make new plans of exploring the rainforests for a change of adventure or even soaking in the hot tub and warm cozy fireplace in the Mountain Pine Ridge.
As the rainy season technically falls on June to August, travelers are often met with gracious discounted prices in accommodations when rain falls every afternoon or even for days. For so far, August has become the best month for European backpackers, travelers and vacationers, as December and February months are the best months for North Americans.
The History Trend of Belize’s Weather
The major problem in Belize is the destructive hurricanes and the worst hurricane that hit Belize was in 1951 that had wiped out two thirds of the blossoming number of buildings in Belize. After the destruction that the hurricane had left the community of Belize to deal with, more buildings were structured and extra protection was enforced for the capital. Ever since, the rainfall has measured between 1350mm to about 4500mm from the north to the south. During the peak of the hurricane season of September to October, there are certain tourism businesses that opt to close business during these months.
